Turn up the Heat with Turnbull Cab
2011-10-07 18:27:16
So you've tasted the 2007 Turnbull Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and you saw for yourself that it was an unbelievable cab- a no-brainer. You buy it and bring it home, ready to open it tonight to celebrate the end of a long week at work. What are you going to cook with this luscious wine? What is going to bring out the full-flavored tannins most boldly? We have one answer for you: STEAK. We could not think of a better, classier way to accentuate the fullness of this cab than pairing it with a dense steak dish that we guarantee will leave your mouth watering and wanting more. But, wait! Careful which steak you choose. We are going to go with a NY Strip Steak because we are craving that juicy combination of steak juices and sauce, rinsed down with the fabulous Turnbull cab. Paula Dean from the Food Network is just the woman to turn to for a juicy steak recipe. Her down-home style cooking will do just the trick. A Trip to Spain
2011-10-14 17:23:09
This week, we are featuring the 2009 Pingus Psi from Ribera del Duero as one of our feature wines. This bold, spanish red needs to be complimented with a rich yet flavorful dish to bring out the natural flavors of the spanish grape, Tinta Fina. The grapes are taken from Ribera del Duero which is located in Spain's northern plateau and is one of eleven 'quality wine' regions within the autonomous community of Castile and León. It is also one of several recognized wine-producing regions to be found along the course of the Duero river. Dominio de Pingus PSI 2009 is made from 100% Tinta Fina coming from old vines in the prized Ribera del Duero. The wine has a dark, cherry-red color with purple edges on the rim of your glass. It is filled with intense aromas of ripe fruit, rose petals and timber wood. Bright cherry and woody notes are accented by a beautiful acidity- Pair this delicious juice with a Spanish chicken dish- we like one from Rachel Ray's 30 minute meals. What a perfect, easy, Fall Friday night! Open your new wine from our shop, and cook for no more than 30 minutes to get a beautifully done chicken dish paired with a gorgeous red wine! Stop by today to taste and buy this winner!
Price by Bottle: $44.99 - As part of a mixed case: $38.25

Friday Night Out: Thailand
2011-10-20 20:57:23
This week we are pairing one of our featured wines with a restaurant suggestion in the area that we all LOVE. Let's first look at the 2010 Ott Fass Four Grüner Veltliner. It has a tart, cutting, very sappy nose of peaches, lime, and granny smith apples with a beautiful undertone of smoke and minerals. This delicious white is medium-bodied, soft, round, yet with good tart acidity to back it up.
One of the most common pairings with a Gruner Veltliner is Asian food. The tart acidity in this white grape brings out all of the rich flavors of wonderfully cooked Asian styled food. For this particular wine, we suggest that you bring it to Thai Kitchen. This Thai Restaurant is consistently delicious with their dishes: one of our favorite appetizers is the salt and pepper calamari-- it is not always on the menu but you MUST try it (just ask the waiter)! Down this unique white with any of the noodle dishes or meat entrees to ensure a fabulous and tasty night out to dinner.

Get Classy Tonight! Milan-Style!
2011-10-28 13:43:10
Have some extra time tonight to make dinner for you and a loved one? We all know how tedious it is to cook risotto but we swear this recipe and wine pairing is worth it. This week, we want you all to try one of the featured wines, the Contadi Castaldi Brut Rose' Franciacorta paired with a delicate yet filling, saffron risotto! But first, a little history about Franciacorta:
Franciacorta, Italy, is located to the east of Brescia and it is a relatively small wine region encompassing an area which is 25 km wide and 10 km high. The wine region was originally developed by Bourgundian monks who settled here in the 13rd century. They became such a powerful presence that they were exempt from paying taxes to the bishops of Brescia. Because of this the area became known as Francae Cortae (Free of the Courts in Latin) which over the centuries evolved into Franciacorta.
Today Franciacorta DOCG is a synonym for high quality sparkling wine produced according to the Methode Traditional, or in other words produced by a second fermentation in the bottle and aged on the lees for at least 12 months and a further 6 months in the bottle. The FranciaCorte NV wines can only be released 25 months after harvest. Grapes used to produce the wine are Chardonnay, Pinot Nero (Noir) and Pinot Bianco.
BACK TO THE TASTE! This sparkling Italian beauty has white flowers in the bouquet, with enveloping fruity notes and hints of aniseed, nougat and honey. This freshness is felt again in the palate, which is tangy, full and plump. To bring out the essential "sparkle" of this wine, pair it with Saffron Risotto, a savory one-of-a-kind dish that will leave you full yet satisfied. We have taken this week's recipe from Giallo Zafferano kitchen. Below is a YouTube link that has the recipe listed under the video and a small tutorial of the meal. Get stirring!!
