Rias Baixas & Oysters
2012-02-06 17:55:01
We have a STEAL with the 2010 Burgans Albarino, Rias Baixas: For only $16.99 a bottle, this Spanish white is loaded with flavor. The Burgans Albarino is a perennial Best Buy in our book. The 2010 vintage delivers notes of lemon, peach, mineral, and a hint of tropical fruit aromas. Round, ripe, and savory with a slightly exotic personality, it is a nicely textured effort that over-delivers in a big way. We suggest that you go pick up some raw oysters from Metropolitan Seafood and serve them on the half-shell to slurp down with this crisp white. Don't forget the fresh lemon!

Cabernet Sauvignon and Winter Beef Stew
2012-02-16 20:56:07
This week we are featuring a new cab in the shop, the 2009 Fisticuffs Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. At an tough-to-beat price point of $32.99 a bottle, this plush red will satisfy your palate with a blast of different flavors. Fisticuffs elicits classic Napa Valley Cabernet characteristics. It has a dark ruby color with tantalizing aromas of dark chocolate, cinnamon, espresso beans and black cherries, leading to a concentrated palate of blackberry, black raspberry and cassis. The tannins are well integrated and velvety, providing a full-bodied wine with a lingering finish of baking spices, vanilla and black cherry. The perfect dish to compliment it? A beef stew. Put this one on the menu for the perfect lazy weekend evening. Set up all of the prep and ingredients to be put in the pot the night before and then cook it the next day so that you can minimize prep time. Pour a glass of the Fistcuffs cab with your stew and we guarantee a warm winter classic that will leave you feeling satisfied. We especially like this Hearty Beef Stew with Green Peas and Carrots recipe from Epicurious. Pinot Noir & 2 Pairs
2012-02-24 03:34:01
This weekend, treat yourself to a delicate, yet affordable, meal that will make you feel like you are out to dinner in the Caribbean under a beautiful sunset. With all of the warm weather, these feelings are bound to spring within us (literally). We suggest our featured pinot noir, goat cheese and beet salad, and delectable sea scallops. Giada de Laurentiis has an exquisite salad recipe where she uses arugula instead of field greens, a very nice touch. Find that recipe at http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/beet-and-goat-cheese-arugula-salad-recipe/index.html.
For the scallops, you want something savory but still holding onto the essence of the ocean. We suggest blackened scallops which will compliment well with the pinot noir. Try this basic cajun-inspired scallops recipe from the food network: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/cheryl-smith/blackened-sea-scallops-recipe/index.html.
As for the wine, the 2009 Sineann Oregan Pinot Noir is an excellent choice for this meal. The 2009 was a vintage that featured beautifully ripe grapes. Cool, dry weather went on deep into October - the sort of year that produces the best Pinot Noirs. The fruit for the 2009 Sineann Oregon Pinot Noir was grown on the best vineyard sites, producing a spicy, rich and delicious Pinot Noir that has a long cellar life. The wine is dark, aromatic and has a great natural acidity and a long, rich finish. Wash down your goat cheese salad and scallops with this luscious wine and you will not be disappointed!
