Tasting Tonight!

2012 Hendry Napa Valley 'Unoaked' Chardonnay

Bottle: $22.99 - Mixed Case Price: $19.54

Soft, floral aromas of honeysuckle, nectarine and apple peels burst from the glass. Balanced and pleasant on the palate, with summer fruit flavors. The full, appealing palate and moderate acidity of the pure, stainless-steel fermented fruit from all of Hendry's chardonnay blocks make this our favorite summer Friday wine. This wine is an eye-opener for those who only know chardonnay in the barrel-fermented form.

2010 L'arco Chianti DOCG

Bottle: $15.99 - Mixed Case Price: $13.59

This wonderful new Italian Cantina is the result of a collaboration between the well-known and very successful Brazilian entrepreneur Luiz Alberto Barichello and Luca Fedrigo. The grapes are selectively hand picked and carefully sorted. With a bright ruby-garnet cast, this Chianti displays a spicy red currant and tobacco nose, plenty of zip and drive, abundant fruit, and a tonic acidity on the finish. A great food wine; pair with pizza, pasta, hard cheeses but equally delicious on its own.

2010 Riglos Gran Malbec, Mendoza

Bottle: $29.99 - Mixed Case Price: $25.49

Grown at 3,750 to 4,050 feet above sea level in Mendoza's Alto Valle de Uco, Riglos takes the name of the town where the founders' families first grew roots in Argentina. The estate was established in 2002 by Dario Werthein and Fabian Suffern, under the guidance of Paul Hobbs. The color is opaque, almost black, with a nose that is met with perfume and tar notes that gradually open up into boysenberries, black cherries and plums. The palate is broad and lush, tightly woven with supple, ripe tannins that envelop flavors of dark berries and bitter chocolate, balanced with juicy acidity and fine French oak spice in the finish.

Cheese of the Week: Selles-sur-Cher

AT PEAK RIPENESS! Selles-sur-Cher, the quintessential AOC-protected goat's raw milk cheese, hails from the goat fields around the Loire River in central France. The light dusting of ash on these small discs attracts beneficial mold, protecting the subtle, gentle interior of the cheese. The taste? Mild, milky and creamy with hints of citrus. The cheese is aged to perfection and ensures a uniform coating of edible mold, resulting in a mild paste with a creamy mouth feel. Most dry white wines pair well, while crisp, white Sancerres pair beautifully with Selles-sur-Cher. Each piece weighs approximately 8 ounces.
