2015 Bramare Viña Cobos Marchiori Vineyard Chardonnay

About the Winery

The Marchiori vineyard is located at 3265 ft., in the district of Perdriel. It is an exceedingly balanced vineyard, with vine age between 18 to 80 years old depending on the lot. Soils have deep well-drained layers, with textures varying from clay-loam soils –where there are stones in the surface-, to sand-loam soil - which is slightly alkaline.

The Marchiori vineyard is emblematic for Viña Cobos: where the grapes to produce highly distinguished wines are cultivated. Nico Marchiori Italian immigrant, owner of the vineyard and father of Andrea Marchiori, was a persistent visionary.  He had taken special care of this vineyard with the conviction that Argentine viticulture quality would someday be considered as of the utmost importance.

About the Wine

Hand-harvested by night, March 4th. This lot has very deep soils, with predominance of loam and clay texture. There is also sand, improving significantly the drainage. Fermented for three months with selected and native yeasts in barrels. The wine was then aged for 17 months, 48% new French oak barrels, 52% second use. Bottled in March 2015, unfined and unfiltered.

A very elegant wine of great freshness and liveliness. Pale yellow, vibrant color with green tones and golden reflexes. On the nose we find a delicate floral bouquet with subtle notes of tropical fruit, green apple and an herbal accent. Its minerality outstands while this wine delights us with aromas of toasted bread, cocoa butter, white chocolate and vanilla. On the palate it is round, with an excellent concentration, remarkable acidity and good volume. It is unctuous and persistent, leading to a noticeable, pleasant finish.

2013 Bramare Viña Cobos Marchiori Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

$99.99 / $84.99

About the Winery

Viña Cobos is the inspired vision of a dreamer who one day undertook the challenge of producing great Argentine red wine that would be on par with the best-known wines of the world. From that moment, Paul Hobbs started to make noble wines of superior quality, placing Malbec and Argentina on stage with the world’s greatest wine producers.

Viña Cobos, driven by the vision of producing ultra-premium wines in Argentina, is named the winery after the street where the very special Marchiori vineyard is located. Cobos and Bramare were the first two wines of the new winery.  From the moment these two labels were released they showed the high quality that can be achieved in Argentina’s wines, showcasing the grapes from special lots of the Marchiori vineyard along with the commitment of the winemakers who rigorously worked from the vineyard to the production stage.

About the Wine

Hand-harvested, April 21st. This wine comes from vines of more than 50 years. This lot has very deep soils, with predominance of loam and clay texture. There is also sand, improving significantly the drainage. Smaller size stones are surrounded with gravel. The weather conditions stabilized during summer permitting the fruit to achieve a good ripening. By harvest time, all grapes presented very good maturity and intensity; particularly, the red varieties showed a very deep color, with good structure and concentration on the palate.

A very deep red color with intense aroma with notes of tobacco, cassis, licorice and black pepper. On the palate it is elegant, wide with massive fruit. A sensual and appealing wine with round, fine tannins and full body. 91 PointsWine Advocate.

2013 Bramare Lujan de Cuyo Appellation Malbec

Normally $47.99, TONIGHT ONLY $39.99–no further discounts

About the Winery

The Bramare Appellation highlights the richness of Mendoza regions and it exquisitely shows the differences among the excellent grape growing potential in Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley. These wines are abundant, expressive and hedonistic with highly aromatic intensity, ripe fruit and soft tannins. Bramare- from the Italian word “bramare” (brah-MAH-reh) means “to long, to look forward to”. It expresses the wish of Viña Cobos to go beyond, to challenge the limit.

 About the Wine

Lujan de Cuyo, is known historically as the ‘prime zone’ for wine-growing in Mendoza. Its high elevation location, in combination with a semi-desert climate and low-nutrient gravelly soils, provide ideal conditions for producing high quality fruit. Hand-harvested, April 9th to the 24th.

This Lujan de Cuyo Malbec seduces with its deep amethyst and ruby tones. The nose has great presence of cassis and strawberry opening to joyful notes of caramel, white pepper, star anise, dark chocolate and graphite, enlivened with delicate mint and rosemary notes. Remarkably broad in mouth, this elegant Malbec shows sweet, firm tannins and a very long finish with great persistence. 91 Points, Wine Spectator.

2011 Crocus Paul Bertrand Malbec de Cahors

$47.99 / $40.79

About the Winery

Crocus is a partnership between internationally renowned winemaker, Malbec specialist, and “oenetrepreneur” Paul Hobbs, and Bertrand Vigouroux. Paul’s work with Malbec in Argentina brought worldwide attention to the variety and provided inspiration for new styles to emerge. Additionally, Vigoroux’s family has over 150 years of experience with Malbec in Cahors, where the grape has flourished since Roman times. Crocus blends a single Malbec clone grown within three historic Vigouroux family properties in distinct terraces of the Lot River Valley.

Above the valley, the plateau terrace is made up of limestone rocks-on iron-rich red clays over calcareous flagstone and patches of blue clay. This enhances the finesse, length, and red fruit notes. On the 4th Terrace, which formed from eroded materials from the plateau just above it, a combination of silt, limestone and clay. This creates the components of volume, sucrosity and black fruits. Just below the 4th terrace, the 3rd terrace is composed of ancient alluvial deposits of clay and silt. This fruit contributes components to the structure, with floral notes and tannins.

About the Wine

Hand-harvested on September 29th and October 1st. The average age of the vines is anywhere from 14 to 40 years. Deep purple, with touches of fuchsia on the rim. An intense malbec displaying aromas of red cherry, blueberry, rose petal, ripe Italian plum, black licorice and spice box. The palate is concentrated and bright, cascading with focused flavors of black cherry, red plum, milk chocolate, talc and hints of butterscotch and star anise, supported by fine-grained tannins.

Cheese of the Week:

Ewephoria Sheep's Milk Gouda

The punny name that only makes sense in English should give it away; this cheese was invented for the American market's infamous sweet tooth. Presumptuous - if only the butterscotch sweet, nutty result wasn't so gosh darn successful. And there's an upside to a focused market; the single producer of pasteurized milk is much smaller than most export sources - the farmer's wife posits that the sheep 'eat better than her children' on lush pasture surrounded by a nature preserve. The crunchy stuff makes a blissful snack with drinks like Sherry or Porter and is delicious melted on pies or dessert breads.
