2010 Vogelzang 'Birdsong' Happy Canyon Red Blend $37.99/$32.29
The 'BirdSong' Red is produced in 65% new French oak. It spends 20 months in barrel and consists of a blend that is 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 16% Merlot, 14% Petit Verdot, 12% Malbec. Fruit forward and youthful, this delicious Red Bordeaux blend features notes of ripe summer berries, black cherry, and crushed cranberry. Background notes of sweet spice and fresh floral round out lively bouquet. The wine is very approachable on the palate witha silky entry, but maintains enough weight and structure to be paired nicely with many grilled meats and hearty dishes.

We have fallen completely in love with this stunning Gigondas from Domaine des Bosquets. Rustic and textured with flavors of dark, ripe fruit with a perfumed, minerally finish. This is an outstanding bottle of wine that competes with Chateauneuf du Pape’s twice its price. A great bargain.

We have been huge fans of the St. Urbans-Hof Rieslings year after year for quite some time now. Brilliant fruit and Mosel-slate mineral flavors, lively acidity, and ripe floral aromas. Delicious on its own, or a perfect accompaniment to light or spicy dishes. This is what German Riesling should taste like.

Cheese of the Week: Brie de Nangis
Brie de Nangis hails from Brie, just southwest of Paris, France, and is one of the milder, more buttery Bries. It almost disappeared from production but has seen a revival over the past few decades. Brie de Nangis is creamy and smooth and has a slightly chalky center that becomes runny with age. This cheese pairs well with a Sauvignon Blanc and bigger reds such as Merlot.
