Tonight's Lineup: 2014 Los Bermejos Malvasía Seco $27.99 / $23.79
About the Wine The 2014 Los Bermejos Malvasía Seco is a white varietal that hails from the Canary Islands. As seen in the photo above, the vines are planted in man-made craters up to four feet deep in the volcanic soil. This, along with the climate in the region, allows for a unique richness. A white varietal of pale gold colors is accompanied by a juice that is full of character. This wine is succulent yet the mouthfeel explodes with citrus and minerality upon first sip. A flavor profile that includes pear and nectarine, citrus lingers at the finish - this wine is smooth and well balanced yet fun and interesting. About the Winery Los Bermejos is situated on the slop-side of the Canary Islands. With a landscape that could be considered extraterrestrial, the volcanic ash absorbs any rain that falls (which is a small amount). From there, the water absorbs into the roots of the vines which forms an insulating layer from the sun. In order to combat the winds and other weather conditions of this region, the winery built a four foot stone wall around each crater. The cultivation of the vines is characterized by not having suffered the phylloxera plauge, caused by a nematode that wiped out crops on the European continent in the second half of the nineteenth century. Due to this luck on the islands, the varietals that were obliterated everywhere else, are still flourishing there. The combination of the low rainfall, low yields of fruit from the vine, and sunshine makes the winemaking process a true diamond in the rough. 91 points, Vinous .jpg)
2015 Vera Vinho Verde Rosé $12.99 / $11.04
About the Wine The 2015 Vera Vinho Verde Rosé is fun, fun fun! With 60% Sousao grape varietal and 40% Rabo de Anho grape varietal from select parcels, these traditional grape varietals are exhibited beautifully in this wine. The grapes have dark pigmentation which then produce a deep vibrant color. Due to the fact the vines are between thirty to fifty years of age, situated about 1000 feet above sea level and in a granite-sandy type soil, the juice is elegant and fresh. Grapes are manually harvested, de-stemmed and gently pressed in order to preserve the delicacy. Aromas of red fruit such as wild strawberry and grapefruit on the nose, create a delightful balance with a fruity mouthfeel. When pouring this rosé in the glass, there is a refreshing minerality that has a unique, graceful finish. About the Winemaker Winemaker Luís Duarte prides himself on his Portuguese heritage. After living in the United States for twelve years, Duarte returned to Portugal to pursue his passion of winemaking in his homeland. 'Vera' meaning 'true', is as fresh and light as the maritime climate of northern Portugal, where the wine is produced. He believes that this wine is meant to be a relaxing end-of-the-day drink, as an accompaniment to light meals such as sushi or a green salad. "We think we found the Vinho Verde holy grail and invite you to decide for yourself." -Luís Duarte
2014 Big Table Farm Willamette Valley Pinot Noir $52.99 / $45.04 .jpg) .jpg)
About the Wine The 2014 Big Table Farm Pinot Noir is a must have for those who love Willamette Valley. This vintage was early, warm and absolutely delicious. The rain in late September allowed the fruit to perfectly ripen, which resulted in a wine that is delicate yet still rich and well balanced. Green peppercorn and other savory herbs are unmistakably present on the nose, while the balance of sweet toasted oak and citrus complete the mouth feel of this unfined and unfiltered juice. T his wine exemplifies the idea that the whole is greater than the sum of each of the parts. Bert, an American Guinea hog (as shown on the label), will make you smile ear-to-ear while enjoying this awesome juice. True to the terrior, the 2014 Big Table Farm Pinot Noir should not be missed. We were only able to secure very limited quantities so we suggest you get the wine while it's still available. About the Winery The winemaker Brian Marcy's passion for winemaking had originally sparked while studying fermentation science at UC Davis. Brian took to the process of winemaking easily and learned from places such as, Turley Wine Cellars, Neyers Vineyards, and Blankiet Estate. In 2006, Brian and his wife, Clare Carver, moved from Napa Valley to Willamette and opened Big Table Farm. The farm operates on 70 acres, where they also raise animals and produce seasonal vegetables. They operate on a value-driven system that is inspired by the couple's desire to grow grapes, make wine, and to have a place for all of Clare's animals and Brian's wacky wine projects. They are constantly working towards a healthy, sustainable and diverse farm with the goal of providing a cornucopia of hand-crafted food and wine for a welcoming table of friends and family. They are livin' the dream!
