2018 Domaine de Reuilly Loire Valley Pinot Gris Rosé

$24.99

About the Winery

When tasting the wines of Denis Jamain, it is clear that the appellation of Reuilly, in the eastern Loire, is experiencing a renaissance, moving far beyond its former status as the “poor man’s Sancerre.” This land was once a source of great pride, having been part of a gift of the 7th century king, Dagobert, to the Royal Abbey of Saint Denis. In 1935, Denis's Grandfather planted his first vines here, in addition to farming a large oak forest on the outskirts of town. Denis shares his grandfather’s passion for the vineyards and the forest, as well as his hometown pride. In 1990, Denis began adding to the family holdings. Today, he farms a total of seventeen hectares in the heart of the appellation, with eleven planted to Sauvignon Blanc, four planted to Pinot Noir, and two planted to Pinot Gris, which makes his superb and distinctive Reuilly rosé.

About the Wine

Vineyards are all worked manually with limited yields. Hand-picked, the Pinot Gris is made by direct press and does not undergo malolactic fermentation. When first poured, pale salmon hues shine through the glass. Upon first sip, this wine is dry, crisp, and freshening. With layers of delicious varietal character, this wine is intriguing and leaves you hanging for more.

The soils here are rich, resting on the prized Kimmeridgian limestone, a geological chain that connects the Loire Valley with Chablis in Burgundy. This limestone is valued for its high content of marine and shell fossils dating back 150 million years ago to the Jurassic period. These minerals are without equal for producing some of the most beautiful whites in France. Denis has been practicing sustainable agriculture for many years and has recently started the conversion process for organic certification. Though he uses both stainless steel tanks and oak, Denis is very proud to be able to select special oaks from his grandfather’s forest to make his barrels. This is the concept of “local” in its purest form.

2016 Failla Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

$39.99

About the Winemaker

After cutting his winemaking teeth assisting a consultant in France’s Rhone Valley during the difficult 1992 and 1993 vintages, Ehren Jordan went on to make powerful Petite Sirahs and Zinfandels for Turley Wine Cellars. The lessons he learned in France about maximizing ripeness in challenging conditions now serve Jordan at the 85-acre property on the Sonoma Coast, about 2.5 miles from the Pacific Ocean. In 1998 Ehren planted another parcel contiguous to their first, and in 2002 planted it with five acres of rootstock before grafting six selections of long-coveted Pinot Noir scion material the following year. Ehren’s commitment to the highest standards of viticultural practice, coupled with his education in France and throughout California, is expressed every bottle of Failla Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

About the Wine

(pronounced FAY-LA) All of the sources for the Chardonnay are vinified separately and made with the same care as their vineyard designate wines. The fruit is whole cluster pressed into a combination of French oak (15% new) puncheons and barrique, concrete eggs, and stainless steel. This careful selection of vessels amplifies the naturally cool tone of this coastal fruit. Native yeasts are employed for primary fermentation and the wine completes malolactic fermentation naturally. The wine rests sur-lie for nine months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

In Failla’s ongoing quest for purity of expression they continue to shift toward more neutral elevage for this enjoy-it-young Chardonnay. This wine’s aromas contain a bright and lively mix of lemon verbena, orange blossom and toasted hazelnuts. The flinty palate is bright and textured with balancing notes of toasted walnuts, fennel, and a chiseled minerality. The finish is everlasting, starting with the wine’s vibrant mouth-watering acidity followed by a round, glycerin finish.

Critical Acclaim

"FAILLA (FAY-la) is a top-notch source of high quality, European-inspired wines that combine flavor, intensity and elegance. Given proprietor Ehren Jordan’s experience working in France, it is not surprising that his wines possess French-like acid profiles as well as an unmistakable minerality. Jordan is a Francophile, and his impressive resume includes being one of the masterminds behind the Turley Zinfandels. He is all about natural winemaking, securing top terroirs, and putting into the bottle the essence of what the grape and the site have produced.”–Robert Parker

2009 Weingut Höpler Rosenburg Burgenland Austria Pinot Noir

About the Winery

Famous for making the house wines for the Von Trapp Family Lodge of Sound of Music, Weingut Höpler An Austrian, family owned, winery located about 40 miles southeast from Vienna. The region's weather is marked by cold and winters with little snow, hot, very dry summers, stable autumns and beautifully mild springs. The inspiring Pannonian climate, with the highest amount of sunshine in Europe (up to 2,000 hours a year), ensures a variety of plant life. Together with the lake's enormous evaporation potential, the climate offers optimal prerequisites for ideal maturation of wines.

Höpler’s 46 hectares of vineyards are situated on the most prized and oldest sites in Burgenland: Kirchberg, Jungkirchberg, Schanz, Hirschäcker, Altvierholzer and Rosenberg. A mélange of soils, such as clay, limestone, gravel or pre-historic rocks, aid the production of complex and full-bodied wines. This unique location enables Cristof to produce a wide range of wines; 55% white wine, 40% red and 5% dessert wine.

About the Wine

In the historic vineyard of the Rosenberg the grapes enjoy the moderating influences of the Neusiedler Lake, they benefit from the mild Pannonic climate and are nurtured by the diverse minerality of this extraordinary terroir. After harvest, this wine is aged for 16 months in new French barriques and bottled in January 2012. When poured expect a medium ruby core with a delicate lightening of hues at the rim. On the nose, dark berries intermingle with a complex bouquet of floral nuances followed by notes of subtly integrated wood with light roast aromas. The 2009 Rosenberg Pinot Noir is bold on the palate, unfolding gracefully with a long finish that is elegant yet rich with nougat.

2017 Bledsoe Family Winery Walla Walla Valley Red Blend

$67.99

About the Winery

In 2007, after Drew’s retirement from the NFL, the Bledsoe family planted their first vineyard, McQueen, and shortly after launched Doubleback, an estate focused winery that produces world-class Cabernet Sauvignon from the Walla Walla Valley, Drew’s hometown. It has now been more than ten years since Drew and Maura set out on this immensely rewarding adventure. Throughout those years they patiently cultivated their vision for the future. In the Bledsoe’s unwavering enthusiasm for the Walla Walla Valley, they have made the decision to create Bledsoe Family Winery – a sister project to Doubleback. During their time in Walla Walla, Drew and Maura strategically developed four estate vineyards – McQueen, Bob Healy, Lefore, and most recently, Flying B — each with its own exceptional set of characteristics. At the same time, they have established long-term sources from some of the valley’s oldest and most revered blocks of vines. For these reasons, the Bledsoe’s are compelled to push the boundaries to realize new wine varietals and to expand upon the standard of high-level wine growing and winemaking we have become known for. The Bledsoe family has been blessed with a rich history of which the labels reference, incredibly loyal and supportive customers, and an extremely talented and dedicated team – led by Winemaker Josh McDaniels.

About the Wine

The Bledsoe Family Wine is a work of passion. Stuart Bledsoe, Drew’s Grandfather, was a highly decorated Naval Pilot in WWII. One of his squadron mates waxed poetic about his life on the cattle ranch. At the end of the war, Stu decided to take on the “romantic” life of a cattle rancher and moved his young family to Central Washington where they homestead the Flying B Ranch. Drew and Maura are proud to offer this fine red wine as a tribute to Stuart Bledsoe and our own homestead, the Flying B Vineyard, in the Walla Walla Valley. The 2017 vintage is concentrated, dark, yet balanced. After harvest, the grapes are aged in French oak, 55% new, 45% neutral barrels. With 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Merlot, this wine is beautiful for drinking at a young age, and is meant to be very versatile when it comes to good food pairings. With a mélange of notes encompasing freshly picked cherries and blackberries, followed by hints of coffee, cobbler, and dried herbs. This wine comes with an impressive and balanced mouthfeel that gives this wine the ability to drink now or age well for years to come.
