About the Winery

In the heart of the chalk wonderland of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Didier Vergnon and his son Clement are the 4th and 5th generations to lead this small 5 hectare estate. Founded in 1950, it was in 1985 that Jean-Louis Vergnon first began producing estate-bottled wine from some of their choice sites, including multiple Grand Cru parcels in and next to the legendary Les Chetillons. Since Jean-Louis took over, he pushed to harvest only balanced and ripe grapes, with up to 11 degrees of natural potential alcohol or more. This allowed the family to completely eliminate chaptalization, block malolactic fermentation, and use a generally very low dosage across the range. Tasting through the remarkable range of Didier and Clement’s wines, there exists the classic virile qualities of Le Mesnil that has made this village so famous and lauded around the world. The current releases are truly brilliant and the future is truly bright. 

About the Wine

This is a racy wine with an excellent texture. The aromatic complexity is combined with undeniable qualities of balance. Sustainably farmed 50-year-old vines on average, the base for this wine comes from the 2012 vintage with 25% reserve juice. Tank fermented and aged, blocked malolactic fermentation, and aged for 48 months on the lees. 5 g/L dosage. 100% Chardonnay.

Starting early in the process, the team can guide the finished product and ensure that it meets their exacting standards. 

About the Wine

The beauty of this wine is in the sourcing, as Pursuit can pick grapes from throughout the appellation to create the finest wine possible. Harvested between September and October-after harvest the wine is aged for 20 months in 50% new French oak. It’s the ultimate vinous puzzle, and the result continues to amaze and deliver value in spades. What always sets this wine apart is the nose. Just like the name says, they strive to create an aromatic profile that is bold and bountiful, with notes of charred Earth and spice, designed to provide a backdrop for whatever fruit profile the wine takes on. Layers of tobacco, leather, and flowers always seem to find their way into the mix, all backed by a smooth sweet vanilla finish that rounds out the palate - a fabulous wine at a fabulous price. The fire continues to roar vintage after vintage, and there are no signs of it being put out any time soon. 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. Only 650 cases produced.

Cocktail Recipe of the Week: 

Love Potion 

Ingredients:

2 parts Monkey 47 Gin 

1 part Giffard Wild Elderflower Liqueur

1 part grapefruit juice

1 grapefruit wedge

1 sprig of thyme

Directions:

Shake all ingredients with ice and pour through a fine strainer into a chilled Martini glass. Garnish with grapefruit wedge and thyme sprig into glass. **Optional:  Rim glass with grapefruit wedge and stir drink with thyme for an extra kick. Cheers and Enjoy!
