About the Winery

One of California’s first woman winemakers, Merry Edwards began her career at Mount Eden Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains in 1974. She went on to become the founding winemaker at Matanzas Creek in 1977 and remained there until 1984. For the next decade, Merry consulted for numerous wineries, large and small, in Oregon and many diverse appellations of California. In 1997, family and friends joined Merry to found Merry Edwards Winery, with a focus on producing Pinot Noirs with a sense of place from Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast. Living her dream, she and her husband, Ken Coopersmith, now manage five estate vineyards: Coopersmith, Cresta d’Oro, Flax, Georganne and Meredith. In 2001, a barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc blend was added to the portfolio. In 2013, Merry’s 40th year as a winemaker, not only was she inducted into the Culinary Institute of America’s Vintners Hall of Fame, she also won the coveted James Beard Foundation Award for Best Wine, Spirits or Beer Professional in the United States, becoming just the fourth woman to win the honor.

About the Wine

As a young winemaker in the 1970s, Sauvignon Blanc was not Merry’s first choice among varietals. Therefore the challenge in making the first Sauvignon Blanc in 1979 was to create a wine Merry could personally enjoy. Fast forward to 2021 and the team at Merry Edwards still continues to produce the same style that took many years to refine. Barrel fermentation, lees-stirring regimes, inclusion of the Sauvignon Musqué clone in the blend, French oak selection and strains of special yeast were all areas of experimental focus. The aim has been to elevate the varietal to the stature it deserves, as one of the two great white wines of the world. The result has been lauded as a stunning wine–unique among its peers.

The translucent, aurora-gold hue of this wine predicts what’s to come in the glass. Mouthwatering and luscious, its aroma overflows with tree-ripened fruit–nectarine, quince, peach and Fuji apple–as well as a hint of floral perfume and tropical notes of ripe, juicy pineapple, passion fruit, papaya and mango. Sophistication has come early for this wine with a strong impression of developing minerality. In the mouth, it’s round, lush and vibrantly balanced across the palate. Richness and weight counterbalance bright acidity supported by flavors of tangerine, lemon zest, candied orange peel and sweet pink grapefruit. The finish is luxurious, lingering on well beyond any rational expectation.

Normally $87.99–$74.79 15% Off This Week ONLY!

About the Winery

Brandlin is a Napa Valley estate that produces wine from a small, historic vineyard in the Mount Veeder appellation. Overlooking Napa Valley from its 1,200 foot perch, the estate is planted to 38 acres of Bordeaux varieties. These sustainably farmed, low yielding vines produce intensely concentrated grapes, resulting in wines that eloquently express this rare and rugged mountain site. THE wines pay homage to the Brandlin family, which began farming wine grapes on Mount Veeder in the 1870’s and established the Brandlin Vineyard in 1926. In 1998 Cuvaison Estate Wines was honored by the Brandlin family with rights to purchase Brandlin Vineyard. Today, we remain dedicated to maintaining the original ten acres of old vine Zinfandel and continuing the family’s tradition of nurturing and farming the vineyard by hand.

About the Wine

When first poured, a gorgeous bouquet of violets, rose petals and fresh currant pop out of the glass and onto the nose. This wine is quite lush and round on the mouthfeel, featuring lovely blackberry and boysenberry jam, with hints of mocha, toee and Saigon cinnamon. The 2014 is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon and rounded out with 10% Cabernet Franc, 7 % Malbec and 6% Petit Verdot all from Brandlin’s rugged, picturesque Brandlin Estate Vineyard on Mount Veeder.

About the Winery

Amity Vineyards was founded in 1974 by winemaker Myron Redford, who moved to Oregon with a dream to make world class Pinot Noir. A pioneer, he was the first to produce organically grown sulfite-free wine. The first vineyards were planted in 1971, with a total of 15 acres planted of Pinot Noir, Riesling and Pinot Blanc. Inspired by the rich heritage of exploration that is a part of these hills, Ryan Harms from Union Wine Company & his brother, Eric Harms, have brought new energy to this pioneering craft winery, after purchasing it in 2014. Ryan is a modern wine pioneer who is helping define what Oregon winemaking can be. He became interested in reinvigorating the uniqueness of Amity's past for a modern context and bringing this integral Oregon winery and its beauty to more people.

About the Wine

Amity Vineyards sits 500 feet above the town of Amity where its south-facing slope gets warmth from the sun and cooler air blowing in from the Pacific Ocean 50 miles to the west via the Van Duzer corridor. The warmth brings ripeness while the cool evening temperatures allow the grape to maintain its acidity. The basaltic and marine sediment soils and low yields produce wines with a sense of place and purpose. The Amity White Pinot Noir was sourced from a mix of vineyards located predominantly in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA of the Willamette Valley. The fruit was picked in the cool early morning and gently pressed to minimize color and tannin extraction yet provide the subtle layers of tart and juicy fruit. After settling for 24 hours, the juice is cleanly racked and fermented in a stainless-steel tank. Aged sur lie to create generous yet soft texture, and provide balance to its mouthwatering finish.

Snack of the Week:

Vermont Creamery Coupole

Coupole is an aged goats' milk cheese with a wrinkly edible rind and bright, fresh cheese taste. Coupole’s allure is attributable to the intriguing contrast between the strong ripened flavor of the rind and the delicate fresh taste of its interior.
