About the Winery: Established in 1996, JAX is the collaboration of father and son, David and Trent Jackson. A small but exceptional dry-farmed vineyard in northern Calistoga, Trent produced and bottled his first vintage in his San Francisco garage and then hired consulting winemaker Kirk Venge to lead the way. Locals started to hear about this winery and started buying up the super-limited production of their Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. In 2002, Trent’s sister unhesitatingly jumped on board and put the wines in the hands of San Francisco and New York restaurateurs, much to the pleasure of sommeliers and guests alike. Jax Vineyards goal is to produce wines of great value that accurately reflect their varietal nature.

In 2006, JAX introduced the Y3 brand to engage a wider audience with myriad varieties. The “Y3” was the cattle brand symbol on the Jackson’s grandparents’ cattle ranch, Yarrayne, on the Gold Coast of Australia; and now is a testament to their dedication to family owned, farmed lands and the purest expression of vines and their soil. The “3” pays homage to three generations of land-tilling entrepreneurs. Fruit-forward profiles are driven by top-quality fruit from esteemed Napa and Sonoma Vineyards. Everything produced by JAX is hand-harvested, family-owned and earth-friendly.

About the Wine: The name Taureau, was the name of the Jackson family’s prized bull, legendary for his feisty, high-kicking and vibrant personality. When perfecting this wine at their blending session, the JAX team concurred that the character of their infamous bull reflected the structure and elements of this indulgent red blend... and what a perfect tribute to their family ranching legend.

This wine is what one would expect with a name like Taureau. Boasting incredible inky, purple hues, when first sipped the flavors of blackberry and black cherry ooze into the palate and are followed by hints of soft spices and red fruit, all supported by polished tannins. Full bodied, balanced and vivacious, expect this wine to have its freshness while simultaneously remaining firm on the palate for a beautiful long finish. Should drink well up on release until 2022 or longer.
